A Math Story of Forgetfulness by Zim Olson

At some point in mankind's history he began to forget or at least realized  that he was forgetting.

Before that I guess he just knew everything or maybe he thought he did. Or maybe he just thought and did not consider quantitative nature of this thinking. What it is to think and not know that your are thinking must have presented some problems.

Maybe it would go something like this:

I see the apple. I am hungry. Apple is on tree. Ooops, I can't reach the Apple. I will climb the tree and I will reach the Apple. Then I can and will eat the apple!

Read the sentences without the Quantitative aspects of the sentence in black.

I can envision where problems might arise in two situations.

  1. Communicating this to people or multiple people. Especially those not present .

  2. Trying to Communicate multiple Apples or Trees or People or other such items.

Perhaps this is why Quantitative and/or Qualitative aspects were incorporated into Communication AND thus our thinking. Maybe not the other way around.

But then, as our QUANTITATIVE and/or  QUALITATIVE thinking progressed or developed depending on how you looked at it, this presented other problems. There was the "quantitative and qualitative mind" and then there was quantitative and/or qualitative everything else. Thus the need for Mathematics and thus Mathematicians. I am not sure what a quantitative and/or qualitative mind is but I know  that Psychologists claim we have one, somehow.

Given the Quantitative & Qualitative nature of our minds and the Qualitative and/or Quantitative nature of our Universe this gives Mathematicians plenty of work and problems to deal with. Like how to reconcile the mind and the Universe! Very big problem.

For those of us who think of the Qualitative and Quantitative nature of things or their Qualitative and/or Qualitative nature, we can recognize the inherent problem of any sort of ongoing linear progression of any system of this kind.

In the progression of such a system we reach a limit to it's development. Which is a problem in itself in a Universe of Quantitative and/or Qualitative  existence or whatever.

So ....I think I was talking about Forgetfulness:

Forgetfulness might serve a useful purpose in a Quantitative and Qualitative mind set (Mathematics for example) where the system had reached limits in development. Where new information can be derived from forgetting portions of an expression.  This information although does not make sense at first can be made too with further development. And thus a mental system is able to progress.

Maybe this explains why the Human Kind has developed Forgetfulness.
